About the Courses
The 2012 Heart & Sole Half Marathon and 10K are USATF-sanctioned road races, held north of Boulder, framed by the majestic Colorado Front Range foothills. Half marathon runners begin at the Boulder Reservoir and travel out through Boulder County's rural countryside on mostly soft-packed dirt roads and quiet rural lanes, on a loop course. You’ll pass farms, cattle, horses, cottonwood groves, prairie dogs and ponds, returning to the Reservoir along the Northern Colorado canal path, across the Reservoir's north and south dams, and finishing alongside the shores of the Reservoir. 10K participants begin at the Boulder Reservoir and run a clockwise loop course around the Rez. Runners in both races receive support from more than 100 volunteers staffing a dozen aid stations along the well marked route. Half marathon runners start at 7:10 a.m.; 10K runners start at 7:30 a.m. click here for course maps.
Non-registered runners, pacers/escorts, bicycles, inline skates, dogs, wheelchairs or strollers are not allowed on course. Both races start and finish at the Reservoir and are held in a mostly rural setting. A small portion of the half marathon course will be run on two-lane blacktop, which will be only partially closed to traffic during the event. Race services, aid stations and traffic control are not provided on the course after 11:00 a.m. Parking is free at the Reservoir until 7:30 a.m. for runners and spectators. After 7:30 a.m. regular Boulder Reservoir gate entry fees will be charged. The parking lot opens at 5:30 a.m. Arrive AT LEAST one hour before your start time, and carpool if possible.
